A broad-spectrum antibiotic for genetically modified bacteria, yeasts, fungi, protozoa and plants. NTC, ClonNAT
C19H34N8O8• H2SO4
M.W.: 600.6
Nourseothricin, a complex of the streptothricins F, E and D, is produced by Streptomyces noursei anf isolated as dihydrogen sulphates. It inhibits bacteria, mycobacteria, mycoplasms, protozoae, yeasts, viruses and plants. The mechanism of action involves in the inhibition of ribosomal protein synthesis and induction of miscoding.
Nourseothricin has antifungal effective against Candida albicans. Candida species transformed with the gene encoding nourseothricin acetyltransferase (CaNAT1) were resistant to nourseothricin. Nourseothricin inhibits biosynthesis and induces miscoding.
Solubility: 1,000 mg/ml in ddH2O
Stock Solution: Dissolve 1000 mg of Nourseothricin in a total volume of 5 ml distilled water thus resulting in a stock solution of 200 mg/ml. Sterile filtration is necessary before use!
This stock solution can be stored up to 4 weeks at 4 °C without any detectable loss of activity. For a storage up to 6 months, the aliquot the solution to small vials and frozen at least at –20 °C, avoid freeze/thraw cycles!
