for molecular biology buffer, RNA eletrophoresis. Synonym: 3-(N-Morpholino)propanesulfonic acid, 4-Morpholinepropanesulfonic acid
C7H15NO4S
M.W.: 209.26
MOPS, Free Acid (3-(N-morpholino)propanesulfonic acid) may be used in the preparation of MOPS buffer. MOPS is a zwitterionic buffer primarily used as a running buffer for denaturing gel electrophoresis. The pKa of MOPS (7.2) is closer to physiological pH than that of MES (6.1), and thus MOPS may be more suitable as a physiologically relevant buffer. MOPS interferes with the Folin protein assay, and partially decomposes when autoclaved in the presence of glucose. Usage above 20 mM in mammalian cell culture work is not recommended.
Biological buffer, pKa = 7.2 at 20oC: Biochemistry, 5, 467 (1966). Utilized to promote a mimetic of the transketolase reaction: Eur. J. Org. Chem., 1121 (2006).
