Molecular Biology Buffer. Synonym: N-(2-Acetamido)iminodiacetic acid, N-(Carbamoylmethyl)iminodiacetic acid
H2NCOCH2N(CH2CO2H)2 (C6H10N2O5)
M.W.: 190.15
ADA is a zwitterionic buffer used in biochemistry and molecular biology. It is one of the Good buffers developed in the 1960's to provide buffers in the
pH range of 6.15 - 8.35 for wide applicability to biochemical studies.
Biological buffer component with sodium hydroxide and sodium chloride (pH 5.67-7.57, useful pH range 6.4-7.4). Used to prepare immobilized pH gradients.
Hydrogen ion buffers for biological research.
The free acid of ADA is of low solubility. The mono- or disodium salt is readily soluble at pH 6.4 - 7.4. Dissolve the free acid in equimolar sodium hydroxide.
Good, N.E. et al. (1966) Biochemistry 5, 467-477
