A kind of chemical with anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, and anticancer activities Synonym: 3,4′,5-Trihydroxy-trans-stilbene, 5-[(1E)-2-(4-Hydroxyphenyl)ethenyl]-1,3-benzenediol
C14H12O3
M.W.: 228.24
Resveratrol is a phenolic phytoalexin found in grape skin and other plants. It is used as a natural phenolic antioxidant that is a potent activator of SIRT1 and inhibitor of Cox-1. Resveratrol has also been used extensively in stem cell studies to enhance self-renewal and multipotency of mesencymal stem cells (MSCs) in vitro. Resveratrol acts as a NF-κB inhibitor to protect MSC-derived chondrocytes in vitro. Resveratrol is used to treat adipose-derived mesenchymal stem cells (ADMSCs) resulted in increased alkaline phosphatase activity and osteocalcin levels; thus enriching the MSC and osteoprogenitor cell populations in cultured ADMSCs in vitro.
Application:
• in entrapment experiment
• to study its neuroprotective effect on retinal neuronal cell death mediated by diabetes-induced activation of Ca2+/calmodulin-dependent protein kinase II
• as a standard in the assessment of stilbene content in grapevine leaf by in vivo fluorometry
• selective inhibitor of COX−1.
